2022 Meredith Bay Barbershop Jamboree

August 19-20, 2022

The Meredith Bay Barbershop Jamboree - a summer singing weekend spectacular!

It is our mission for the entire NED community to create a family-friendly, shared experience which encourages singing, fellowship, community. We hope all attendees and community members will experience inclusive events which inspire great memories, lasting friendships, and an ongoing interest in the barbershop style of singing.

The COMMUNITY CENTER
is “Jamboree Central”

INFORMATION 2022:

A small ad-hoc committee formed in 2021 to test the idea of bringing a renewed and revitalized Jamboree to the town of Meredith, New Hampshire. Meredith is a town with a lively town center, lots of activities, and great restaurants, beaches, and plenty of places to sing.

Committee members Karen Rourke, Bill Wright, Lee Daum, Art Lively, Jim Kenealy, Dick Arscott and Steve Salamin have agreed to serve. Thank you!

We need volunteers - please! This isn’t a huge task or commitment. Join us with your IDEAS and service (and singing) at heart! Please consider helping out with the weekend’s activities and/or joining the Jamboree Team! Contact us here!

The Parks and Recreation Department in the town of Meredith, NH has been a great partner in helping us to organize for 2022 – The entire town is excited about this…the area Chamber of Commerce, Tourist Information Bureau, and the Meredith Business Association.

Join us! If you, your quartet, or your chorus wish to offer support or ideas now (in planning), or later (show, performances, ideas), please contact the Jamboree Team - dedicated to the success of this event!

We’re planning a “Great Gathering” Saturday night show, Believe it: it’s an organized, mash-up of performances - to have fun! Watch for the afterglow, too, with food, activities, and lots of late-night singing!

  • With your PARTICIPATION we WILL restore this gem in the NED Crown that started out as the Alton Bay event over 60 years ago.

  • At the northern bay of beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee in Meredith, New Hampshire.

  • It’s "Harmony on the Lake!" and 2022 is our 62nd Year!

  • EVERYONE is INVITED! Sing with us, or listen & enjoy anytime Friday evening and all-day Saturday! Plus the show Saturday night!

  • Now taking reservations to sing/perform on the Saturday evening SHOW! Quartets and Choruses - Everyone In Harmony!

  • Help us! To get involved, contact us here.

Everyone needs a Jamboree-2022 Badge/Button!

If you’re singing, bummin’ around, listening, on the show or just want to “tag along,” you’ll need a badge/button. We’re asking $15 in advance online now. $20 if you show up without a Zeffy registration ticket. Go online now and you can add Friday Dinner and Saturday Afterglow. Add a donation, too! Show-only tickets are available online now, too. And YES, everything is available on-site, “at-the-door.”

Just FYI - we DO have expenses and your admittance and participation helps us. PROCEEDS? We are planning a scholarship for LOCAL youth music programs.

Seeking a few good volunteers to assist with Jamboree Central, activity areas & the Show. You'll be helping us manage the people and processes, ensuring smooth transitions and helpful guidance. Please! (TIA!)

We Need You! VOLUNTEERS are needed…

  • (2) Jamboree Central: Registration/Check-In & Badge/Button conversions, Tee Shirt & Water Sales.

  • (3) Venue Monitors/Post - Information, Directions, Map - "Ask Me" post. e.g. parks, dock.

  • (2) Show Night: Registration/Check-In Table.

  • (2) Show Night: Door Monitors.

  • (2) Show Night: Quartet/Act "Runners" (back stage).

  • (2) Show Night: Intermission/Snack Sales.

  • (∞) All Weekend: Photographers / Video Recording - everyone; however a dedicated photo person is cool!

All staffers: PLEASE have your camera/smartphone ready and take pictures, anywhere, everywhere!

  • You may need a car for transportation to a venue or activity area.

  • A personal cell phone is handy for inter-Jamboree Team communications.

Meredith’s History & Highlights - 1: “Archie Park”

A human-size statue of the redheaded, freckle-faced cartoon character Archie was unveiled in Meredith on August 9, 2018. Meredith was the hometown of illustrator Bob Montana, who drew the first Archie comic strip in 1942, and who continued cranking out Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead until he died cross-country skiing in 1975.

The Archie statue sits in a bench, with room for visitors, looking across the street toward the workshop where Bob drew Archie comics.

Montana modeled various Archie characters on people he knew in Meredith, and he was known for taking children for rides in his 1923 Model T, the same car that Archie drove in his early comics. Montana passed away before he could realize his dream of turning Meredith into an art colony, but he did succeed in having the town's parking meters removed.

America's typical teenager was immortalized in bronze by Belarusian sculptor Valery Mahuchy.

SEE IT! Downtown, on the west side of Main St, in tiny Community Park. South of the white wooden church and north of the red brick church.

“Joe Cerutti Park”

“What?” - JOE CERUTTI PARK?

What has Joe Cerutti got to do with Meredith, NH?

No less, the Jamboree?

Ahhh, good questions. That guy gets around, that Joe Cerutti fellow, huh? Well, we were wondering too, in our search after hearing rumors and wild stories about Joe and his travels and times in New England.

So, we sought out this “Park” in June 2022 and asked around as we meandered downtown in search of “The Park.” Yup, we asked everyone we met - and the response was almost unanimous: each had NO IDEA who Joe Cerutti is, or was. <lots of laughs>

Finally, we found one person. “Uh - his name is on a plaque downtown somewhere.” Well, turns out, Joe Cerutti WAS a famous, local and recent HISTORICAL FIGURE in Meredith.

Philanthropic, generous, kind, funny, masterful, debonair, team builder, hands-on, go-getter - nothing to describe the Joe Cerutti WE KNOW.

Hmmm. Really. “Joe Cerutti ” who - then?

(you’ll just have to come to Meredith, find “The Pit” and see the dedication plaque, to find out! What A Guy!)

    • Barbershop Harmony on the Bay, at Hesky Park, tent at Prescott Park, all-around - Informal quartet singing.  Men. women, young, old! Fun times!

  • A Hometown special dinner for “Jamb-ers” and the whole community! Hosted by the Meredith Club of ALTRUSA Int’l.

  • Serving starts at 6:00 - until 7:30. Baked Ham, mac ’n’ cheese, roasted potatoes, vegetable medley, corn salad, coffee, tea, lemonade, and you are welcome to SING for brownies for dessert.

  • Dinner (all you can eat) is $12 (and add a donation to further Altrusa projects!)

SATURDAY, August 20 – AM/PM – all around!

  • 10:30 AM to 12 noon – 5th Annual Joe Kopka Memorial Mini Golf Tournament 2022 at Pirates Cove Miniature Golf

  • 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM – Quartet & Tag Singing in general - at various venues (times only suggested / food is on your own)

  • 12:30 PM to 1:30 — Quartet Stroll at Community Park and area businesses! Some of these will be organized/scheduled with quartets.

  • 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM — “OPEN MIC” Quartet performances “on the Bay” at Hesky Park. Like what you hear? Show tickets available!

  • 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM – TAG SINGING with Manoj, the tag master! “Cerutti Park” (“BBQ-Pit”). Open to all - including the public! Try it! Easy!

DINNER: 4 -to- 6 PM - on your own - but do so as a foursome or more and SING at your selected town restaurant or Happy Place!

SATURDAY, August 20 @ 7:00 PM - Great Gathering SHOW - at the Meredith Community Center:
