Seeking NED historical items
If you have items that you no longer wish to hold - photos, news bulletins, posters, flyers, programs, music, advertising clips, LP records, anything - physical and/or digital - we will take them off your hands! (Well… we’ll assist you in your endeavors!) Please communicate with us!
The Northeastern District previously had a storage unit where boxes upon boxes of documents, pictures, and other items of interest to barbershoppers were stored. These boxes had come from a variety of sources; some private individuals and others from a past method of display by the name of the NED Mobile Museum.
Regardless of where these items came from, no one any longer really knew what was in those boxes. Eventually, upon a trip to inspect the storage area, it was found that the roof had been leaking and was threatening to destroy whatever was being kept. That prompted the NED to remove everything in the unit to a safe (and free) storage area at the Music Mansion in Providence, Rhode Island. There, again, they sat for a while waiting for someone to come along and route through everything, which is where we are today. While there are still numerous items to review and catalog, the tabs below are a listing of those that have been reviewed and scanned as of today.
The items listed in the INDEX PAGES range from a scan of the Society’s Barber Shop Re-Chording from 1942, to NED convention programs and scores from 1955, to trophies that have been retired, and to pictures of many quartets and choruses many of whom we don’t know even so much as the name of the group.
All of the items can be viewed by clicking on the folder that corresponds to the tabs in this spreadsheet. These items will also be on display at NED contests whenever possible so please take the time to check them out firsthand.
This is where we need your help. Hopefully you can help us fill in the blanks for these photos by emailing us with whatever information you may have on any of these items whether it’s to fill in just the group name, a member’s name, or even a correction. To do so, please just send an email to me, Brian Riley, email address below, with the missing info and with whatever information you have, along with the Inventory ID#. We’ll then update the spreadsheet with the correct information.
In the future, as more items are sifted through, they will be added to this spreadsheet so please check back occasionally to see what new items may have been found! We’ll show the update history, too.
Thanks for your assistance and have fun!

NOTE:
All the objects were originally scanned at 600-dpi.
Each file has been “optimized” (reduced in file size and quality) to promote faster web page loading. These optimized files appear in the archive. Suitable for viewing but not for reproducing, especially in print.
All the original, full-size scans images and files are still available if/when needed for display or printing purposes. Ask us to provide! Thanks.
