Leadership Academy 2010 Faculty Bios
Alan Lamson (Presidents)Northeastern District (Connecticut)
Alan is a member of the Manchester, CT chapter and is a 29-year member of the Barbershop Harmony Society. He is a past president of the chapter, was elected Barbershopper of the Year for the chapter twice, and Barbershopper of the Decade (1990s) for the chapter. He is a baritone in the chorus and the baritone of the 2005, 2006, and 2009 Yankee Division Senior Quartet Champions, Senior Momentum. He was president of the Northeastern District in 2003-2004 and, before that, served as District Executive Vice-president and District Vice-president - Chapter Support and Leadership Training. He was the 1999 Northeastern District Barbershopper of the year. Alan has served as a Dean in the COTS program, is a Contest Administrator in the Societys contest and judging program, has served as staff to the NEDs Harmony Explosion Camp, and is currently serving on the Societys International Board of Directors as the Society Executive Vice-president. He is also a member of Newcaneweng, the Northeastern Districts honorary association.

Guy Haas (Marketing & Public Relations)  NED, New Hampshire
I have been in Marketing and Sales, at a professional level, for 35 years, held titles of VP Marketing and Sales at several high-tech companies,.. Mostly I have been selling barbershop for 20 years. I am a member of the Nashua Granite Statesmen and have competed with them at International 7 times. Now NED VP Marketing & PR, I have been to the Societys VP Marketing & PR Mini Forum in Dallas this past November, and will share information obtained. I have a BS in Marketing from U of MD, and MBA from Case Western. I teach Principles of Management, one evening a week at at a local college.

Joe Hudson (Youth In Harmony)  NED, Connecticut
Joe has been officially involved with the Barbershop Harmony Society for 6 years, but has been singing for over 15 years. He has performed in over 50 different plays, musicals and operas. He has been in four different barbershop quartets. Joe has been the director for the Danbury Mad Hatters Barbershop Chorus for the past 5 years. This is his first year as the NED VP of Youth in Harmony, and is excited to see how far this District can and will go. Joe graduated from Western CT State University in 2006, and took a position as the choral director of Danbury High School that same year. Currently he is teaching K-6 Music in Ansonia, CT.

Norm Mendenhall  (Technology and Barbershop)  NED, New York
Norm joined the Society in 1986 after hearing the Racing City Chorus in a performance in Saratoga and was hooked after about eight measures. He has been heavily involved in the administrative end of barbershopping serving on both the Chapter and District level over his 26-year history with the Society. He got his first exposure to computers while editing the Noreaster which he did for 14+ years (a record NO ONE is trying to break). His only quartet experience was a ten-year wild ride as tenor in The Oxymoron Quartet an experience he will never forget. He has won many chapter and District awards and is a member of NEWCANEWENG  NEDs honor society affiliate. In the late 80s he started his own computer repair business and has been at it ever since. He has taught in many COT Schools over the years and is now repeating a course which started last year taking the mystery out of computers and how they relate to our everyday lives in barbershopping.
Richard (Dick) Newton (Treasurers) has been a Society member for 25 years and a member of three different chapters (Minneapolis, MN, Nashua, NH and Alexandria, VA). Dick has been a member of the Alexandria chapter for the last 18 years. During this period Dick has been the Chairman of the Chapter International Convention Committee (3 years), the Assistant Treasurer (1 year), and the Treasurer (4 years). Dick has also been a member of the Presentation Team. While with the Nashua chapter Dick served as Chairman of the Presentation Team and Music VP. In real life Dick has a BS in Mathematics from Duke University and an MS in Computer Science from the University of Maryland. Dick works for a large government contractor as an Information Security specialist. In addition to his experience as the Treasurer for the Alexandria Harmonizers, Dick has extensive experience in the classroom. His teaching experience includes: Instructor at the Army Artillery School, work as a Graduate Assistant in Computer Science, Instructor for Sperry-Univac teaching Operating System and system architecture courses, and numerous tutorials on Computer Systems and Security topics. Dick has been a COTs Instructor since 2001, teaching the Treasurers class.
Steve Isherwood (Fundraising, Board of Directors)  NED, Rhode Island
Steve has been a member of the NED for 14 years and has served on the District Board as VP of Events and VP of Financial Development. Steve is a member of the Providence, Lincoln and New Bedford Chapters and is the 2008 Patriot Division BOTY. Steve brings over 20 years experience in serving non-profit agencies, especially in the areas of fundraising and event planning.
Walt Lane (Secretary)- Northeastern District (New York)
Walt is an eighteen-year member of the Schenectady, NY chapter and has held various chapter offices including President, Secretary and Treasurer.  He is a COTS-certified instructor in the Secretary track.  Walt currently serves on the Socierty Operrtions and has served on the NED District Board of Directors as DVP-Member Services, Executive VP, and until January 2010 as NED District President.  He has received the BOTY award for his chapter and the Mountain Division.
